Erlangen, situated at the river Regnitz and the Main-Donau-Channel, is the smallest of the big cities of Bavaria. In the 16th century the Huguenots settled here after their expulsion from France and today there are still people from over 140 countries in the cosmopolitan city. The innovation center Friedrich-Alexander-University that covers not only the field electronic, energy, environment but also has a focus on language, culture and religion. Erlangen offers a variety of leisure time events for culture lovers from the annual castle garden concert to the comic parlor which is the known as the biggest and most important festival for graphic novels in Germany. The economically most important company in the region is the Siemens company with limited liability but there are also other important companies from the energy and nuclear sector.
